Designing for Disaster Protection and Storm-Proof Homes
Exterior wind damage is responsible for 25% of all homeowner insurance claims. That doesn’t include the interior losses that occur when damaged windows and roofs let rain wreak havoc inside. While we can’t prevent windstorms, we can lessen their damage by planning home designs with wind-resistance as a top priority.

SOFIA COURT
The homeowners wanted to build a home that would be beautiful, functional, and sustainable. They brought in an ICF expert contractor who selected Fox Blocks as the ideal building material to accomplish the homeowners goals. This home was built directly into a natural rock ledge and features large covered porches and breezeways on the exterior and beautiful oak floors throughout the interior.

HELL ROARING RANCH AIR HANGAR
This unique air hangar is the first of its kind in terms of ICF applications. The design of this building was not intended to stand out, but to conform and fit its environment. With beautiful wood and stonework exterior finishes and the steep rake of the roof down to the embankment in which the hangar is nestled, the building elegantly blends into the beautiful Idaho surroundings without being obtrusive.
How do I apply an acrylic stucco finish to an ICF?
Acrylic stucco is a thin coat finish which can be directly applied to the EPS insulation on the exterior face of the ICF. Fox Blocks provides a continuous EPS surface conducive for the application of acrylic stucco. All acrylic stucco manufactures are familiar with ICFs as a substrate and each have their recommendations for application over ICFs. Note there is a difference in the installation procedures between acrylic stucco and traditional stucco.
What fasteners are recommended for ICFs?

Fox Blocks has conducted numerous fastener tests for pull-out strength and shear capacity for various fasteners – screws, ring shank nails and staples into the plastic webs. The recommendation for interior and exterior applications of finish materials is for the use of screws which provide the best holding capacity into the plastic webs or fastening strips in the forms which are identified on each block.

The EPS insulation does not provide any holding capacity for fasteners.
