Con­crete mason­ry units (CMU) and insu­lat­ed con­crete form (ICF) walls have sev­er­al fea­tures in com­mon: ener­gy-effi­cien­cy, dura­bil­i­ty, and good indoor envi­ron­men­tal qual­i­ty (IEQ). How­ev­er, ICF is quick­er and eas­i­er to install com­pared to CMU, which saves time and mon­ey.

The design­ers and con­struc­tion team were charged with cre­at­ing a sus­tain­able 7,500 sq. ft. mod­ern estate atop a stun­ning hill over­look­ing ranch­es and vine­yards in Mur­ri­eta, Cal­i­for­nia.

The home­own­ers want­ed to build a home that would be beau­ti­ful, func­tion­al, and sus­tain­able. They brought in an ICF expert con­trac­tor who select­ed Fox Blocks as the ide­al build­ing mate­r­i­al to accom­plish the home­own­ers goals. This home was built direct­ly into a nat­ur­al rock ledge and fea­tures large cov­ered porch­es and breeze­ways on the exte­ri­or and beau­ti­ful oak floors through­out the inte­ri­or.

Com­mer­cial con­trac­tors and their clients are show­ing a greater inter­est in design­ing build­ings that can stand strong dur­ing nat­ur­al dis­as­ters. In their quest for for­ti­fied mate­ri­als, more of them are turn­ing to ICF con­struc­tion.
