The chal­lenge for this build was to cre­ate a home that would appeal to a sophis­ti­cat­ed buy­er with fea­tures that an emp­ty nester mov­ing from a larg­er more expan­sive home would enjoy. The result is an ener­gy effi­cient home which cre­ative­ly uses space in an attrac­tive, lux­u­ri­ous, and cost effec­tive way.

Green build­ing con­struc­tion meth­ods have emerged as options for not only reduc­ing envi­ron­men­tal foot­prints, but also cut­ting down ener­gy expens­es. These meth­ods are based on eco-friend­ly prac­tices and mate­ri­als, and are aimed at pro­mot­ing both envi­ron­men­tal and eco­nom­ic sus­tain­abil­i­ty.

The own­ers want­ed an ener­gy-effi­cient facil­i­ty where they could pro­vide inde­pen­dent liv­ing, pal­lia­tive, and end-of-life care in Ontario, Cana­da.

These own­ers want­ed a 100% self-sus­tain­ing, off-the-grid home. Because of its ener­gy-effi­cien­cy and insu­la­tion prop­er­ties, Fox Blocks ICF was the per­fect solu­tion.

An ICF home, like one built with Fox Blocks, pro­vides many of the essen­tial fea­tures that today’s home­own­er is look­ing for: excel­lent indoor envi­ron­men­tal qual­i­ty (IEQ), ener­gy-effi­cien­cy, and dis­as­ter-resis­tance.

The Krafthaus home was built in the plains of Black For­est, Col­orado which meant a high water table (4’ below grade), poor soil qual­i­ty, and weath­er con­di­tions that includ­ed high wind gusts and snow drifts up to 5 feet tall.
