This build gave 30 high school stu­dents hands-on expe­ri­ence build­ing a home with Fox Blocks ICF from the ground up.

The build­ing indus­try has seen a rel­a­tive­ly recent trend of archi­tects, design­ers, and home­own­ers mov­ing away from ener­gy con­sump­tive forms of con­struc­tion and the imple­men­ta­tion of more sus­tain­able, less expen­sive con­struc­tion meth­ods.

Nashville is known as the nation’s hub for coun­try music and cul­ture. As the cap­i­tal city of Ten­nessee, it has steadi­ly grown in pop­u­la­tion since the 1970s. The city’s lead­er­ship saw a need for more afford­able hous­ing oppor­tu­ni­ties in the boom­ing metro­plex, with a focus on more ener­gy-effi­cient homes to fur­ther address the cost of liv­ing.

In the field of archi­tec­ture and con­struc­tion, inte­grat­ed design is a pow­er­ful solu­tion that tack­les the inef­fi­cien­cies of tra­di­tion­al iso­lat­ed process­es. This approach com­bines dif­fer­ent project ele­ments under a uni­fied vision, and proves par­tic­u­lar­ly effec­tive with Insu­lat­ed Con­crete Forms (ICF) like those from Fox Blocks. By using ICF, the build­ing process becomes more effi­cient and col­lab­o­ra­tive.

The project is a key fea­ture and gath­er­ing place in a small city that is plan­ning sub­stan­tial city-wide rede­vel­op­ment. The new 11-screen the­ater is a focal point of this effort and has intro­duced the region to ICF and the ben­e­fits of build­ing with this method.
