Is a vapor barrier required on the inside face of an ICF wall?
No. The characteristics of an ICF wall with the mass concrete and the EPS insulation provide the required vapor permeance to meet building code requirements as a vapor barrier.
How do frame in openings?
Fox Blocks has developed the Fox Buck specifically to frame openings such as windows and doors. The Fox Buck provides insulation around the opening plus support for the attachment of the window or door.
Is EPS the same as XPS?
No, these insulation products are quite different. EPS is closed cell expanded polystyrene, while XPS is a closed cell extruded polystyrene. The properties, applications and costs of each are quite different. The majority of ICFs are manufactured with EPS.
Does the Fox Blocks contain recycled materials?
The plastic webs in Fox Blocks forms are 100% recycled postindustrial polypropylene. The EPS insulation is virgin material. Recycled content for an ICF block is measured by weight. The recycled content by weight of a standard 6″ Fox Blocks form — 48%.
ICFs and Severe Weather
The steel reinforced concrete, which can cure stronger than normal concrete because of the foam insulation, can withstand winds of over 200 MPH, and projectile debris traveling over 100 MPH. There are dozens of eye witness examples of ICF homes taking EF5 tornadoes head on with the walls still standing.

Is ICF Construction Worth the Cost for Commercial Buildings?
ICF construction for commercial buildings has skyrocketed over the past few years. ICF benefits ranging from sound insulation to durability to building strength and disaster resistance have piqued a lot of interest for builders and architects. But it has some scratching their heads, mistakenly thinking ICF is more expensive and then wondering, Is ICF construction cost worth it?”
What is EPS made from?
Polystyrene is virgin material, manufactured from petroleum. Polystyrene beads are expanded with steam heat to be up to 40 times their original volume and then the expanded beads are molded again by steam heat into 258″ rigid insulation panels to create a Fox Blocks ICF.

How Much Does an ICF Foundation Cost?
When it comes to building a sturdy, energy-efficient foundation for your home, insulated concrete form (ICF) technology is rapidly growing in popularity. By providing superior insulation, an ICF foundation can significantly reduce heating and cooling costs. Building an ICF foundation can also be easier and less labor-intensive than traditional construction due to the lightweight materials involved. However, the initial cost can sometimes be higher than traditional construction methods, so how much does an ICF foundation cost?
