This high-quality, energy-efficient home was designed for a wounded Marine veteran whose legs were amputated after a life-threatening accident. The custom home features decks, gable ends, and Hardie shakes used on the exterior. The design also includes a basement-level suite for “wounded warriors” and their families to recuperate, heal, and enjoy the natural surroundings.

As an ADA-compliant home, the designers and builders had to give careful attention to every interior and exterior opening to ensure easy wheelchair navigation throughout the home. A number of the sub-trades working on the project were not familiar with Fox Blocks and ICF construction. Fox Blocks provided on-the-job training to ensure a smooth build. Even with a complex design that included short returns at some corners, the intersection of front porch frost walls to the main wall, and builders new to this method, there were zero concrete blowouts on the entire project during the ICF construction process.

“For me, there was more to consider for our home than just the safety and security of my family. There were my own concerns, as a wounded marine, as well as the concerns that I had for other injured veterans, whom I planned for and hoped would visit, to assist with their healing, both physically and mentally. My ‘still waters’ forever home had to meet all those concerns. I am happy to say that my fox blocks home has done that and so much more!”
